Chapter 2 : Caesar Needs Help. Does he?

• As Sam is running towards his clinic with Caesar hidden carefully under his jacket, all he can think about is saving the poor pup. Once he reaches the clinic, he opens the door and places Caesar on the bed, starts examining him for injuries.

  “Thankfully, you have superficial cuts and abrasions, maybe a bit dehydrated and cold, but otherwise you will be on your feet in no time”, said Sam.

  Surprisingly, or not, Caesar nods as if he understands and continues to wag his tail at Sam.

  It might not seem conventional, Sam talking to an animal and explaining his diagnosis as if he can understand, but Sam believes that animals are smart enough to understand a lot of expressions.

  Even while working with the military-trained canines, he used to talk to his patients like a human doctor does. Now, living as a retired veterinarian, he continues to do the same.

• After treating the wounds and wrapping them up, Sam brings a bowl of water that is lapped up in no time. Sam smiles softly and pats Caesar, letting him know he is proud of the pup. The strings of Sam’s heart tug at the sight of the pup, “You sure are a brave one, aren’t you, little boy” Caesar’s eyes sparkle at the praise.

  “What should I do with you?” hums Sam, at which Caesar whines as if wanting to tell, “ Take me with you.”

  Sam lets out a laugh at that. Noticing that the sky has gone dark, the winds getting colder, and no one to take care of the poor pup in the clinic, he decides to take Caesar along to his home. There he can care for the pup, and maybe feed him before giving him sedatives to relieve the pain.

  Thinking this, Sam wraps a blanket over Caesar and sets to return home with the pup; smiling to himself.
