Feeding Guidelines:
Introduce Hill's Prescription Diet a/d Canine/Feline Critical Care food by mixing increasing amounts of it with decreasing amounts of your pet’s current food during a course of seven days.
To get the exact quantity of one time feed, divide the amount of food given into the following table by the number of times you feed the pet.
These are general guidelines. Your pet’s nutritional needs may change as per his/her age, health condition, temperament and activity level. Consult your vet for this and administer the amount in accordance with his advice.
Keep fresh drinking water readily available at all times.
In patients where normal G.I. function has been compromised by anorexia, a three-day transitional feeding strategy may be necessary.
- Day One - 1/3 of daily caloric intake with 2/3 water dilution
- Day Two - 2/3 of daily caloric intake with 1/3 water dilution
- Day Three - Entire daily caloric intake
Select a feeding schedule based on the following patient criteria:
- Schedule 1 - Cage Rest
- Schedule 2 - Surgery, Sepsis, Cancer, Trauma, Fever, Feline Hepatic Lipidosis
- Schedule 3 - Severe Burn, Injury or Head Trauma
Divide the total amount of food into at least 3 to 6 daily feedings to reduce chances of gastrointestinal side effects.
